Many students are interested in learning how to draw a black cat, a popular choice at this time of year. One helpful piece of advice is that they need to think about the cat pose before drawing. Choosing a seat and keeping its legs inside may be fine for drawing. But by the time it turns dark black, all those lines have disappeared, and it's hard to see that it's a cat. The best solution is to pull a cat that makes a nice silhouette, as it appears to be moving. It is also easy to see the shape of each leg and tail. This is also a good opportunity to make these hind legs a little more realistic, as the part that turns into the hip is always wider than where it joins. Young artists will find this tutorial easy to do, be sure to encourage them to paint carefully. Displays any paper filled with black crayons or markers (i.e. scrabbles!) It will not look as impressive as a solid black cat. It takes time, but it is worth it.
Getting Started With Drawing Guides
The best way to get students off to a good start in any drawing lesson is to show them how to use the guides. You may have noticed that all the tutorials on this site have a vertical line and a horizontal line running between each step. If students draw custom lines before drawing, they will have an easy reference to follow. For example, as seen in step 1 below, the cat's outline begins with a circle in the upper right of the paper. It is easier for students to follow when they have their guide on their paper. When students start their drawing for a good start, they are more likely to succeed until it is completed. Drawing skills are about getting the size and space of lines on paper. Having some visual citations to get you started will always help someone learn to be a little more accurate. So does this mean that students need to get a ruler to draw a big line in the middle of their paper before starting? It will be difficult to erase it and distract from any created art. Instead, they fold the sheet of paper in half, make creases, and open it. The beauty is that by the time the drawing is done, the colors are gone, and the creases will disappear.
